**Javen** Javen followed Amani through the many alleyways that supposedly led them to the marketplace. He thought he recognized some of the paths they took, but the winding streets started to blur into one. Only someone who grew up in the city would know how to navigate their way through. The hot afternoon sun burned through his clothes, and he struggled to keep up with Amani's brisk pace. She seemed determined to get back to the marketplace as quick as possible. Waiting for Amani in the alleyway while she finished tending to Samara and Rehmen's mother was almost unbearable. He did not understand how the citizens could get used to the sweltering heat. In the palace whenever it got too hot, he would swim in one of the many pools within the palace's interior rooms. But he obviously did not have that luxury now. He didn't even see a fountain or open pool of water as they walked around. But swimming in a pool was probably least concerning to the citizens. "So" Javen started after a

**Javenshir** "Unbelievable," Javen huffs under his breath as he paces through the streets of Agrabah towards the palace towering high above the rest of the city. So far since he had left the palace this morning he was accused of robbery, taken through some back-alleyways, was almost puked on, and then when he tried to help these children stuck in a horrible situation, he was insulted and ordered to leave. The picture of Amani's furious face was stuck in his mind. He recalled finding the young woman impressive earlier in the day when she bravely faced the merchant holding a sword to her young friend. But now the thought of the young woman only made his mood worse. She had the nerve to say that Agrabah was failing. "She has no idea what she is talking about." Javen scowled as he continued his trek. "Who does she think she is?" For the past few years as his father and other advisors trained him to become the next sultan, he watched these men he admired keep the peace with foreign

Chapter 7 **Javenshir** Javenshir thought his situation was very ironic. Here he was exploring the streets of Agrabah, a city that he would soon rule over as Sultan. And yet this was his first time outside of the Palace Walls in years. How does Baba expect me to rule Agrabah when I do not even know my own kingdom? Sure, since he was a boy Javenshir was taught the history, economics, geography, and politics of Agrabah, but his father never let him explore the kingdom himself. When he was much younger, his mother would take him to the marketplace. Some of his very distant memories of his mother involve her laughing and smiling as she interacted with the people. Javenshir remembered the people of Agrabah as being friendly and prosperous as they roamed around. That all stopped however when his mother died of a tragic accident. Javenshir still does not know the details of what happened exactly. Whenever the subject of his mother was brought up, his father usually changed the subject.

Chapter 6 “Amani! Are you almost ready?” “Coming Baba.” Amani responded as she finished adjusting her cream head covering around her head. Her long wavy hair was hard to tame, but she managed to wrap it in a low bun around the nape of her neck and get it mostly covered by the cream cloth. Although some of her hair fell in tendrils framing her face. Amani sighed in defeat. It would have to do, that was the fourth time redoing the hairstyle. Since it was the first day of the weeklong festival, Amani dressed nicer than usual since their bread cart would receive more business than usual with all the visitors from the nearby villages and cities. She dressed in a soft pair of maroon pants with a matching maroon vest. Her shirt was a light pink hue and the sleeves and color were trimmed in red and gold thread. She placed gold bracelet with the three light-green gemstones on her wrist. At night she kept the bracelet in a wrap of cloth near her head so that any intruders would not be

Chapter 5 "Those kids sure like you Aladdin." Amani smiled at her friend as they walked side by side back to Aladdin's place. The Sun was starting to get lower and lower in the east, so they decided to leave their friends in the alleyway and head out to get dinner. Aladdin smiled and looked down at the path as they walked. "Yeah, they're great kids. They love listening to your stories." Amani shrugged. "They're not my stories. I just retell them from the books and people I've heard them from." "Well you do a great job of it." Aladdin continued. "They hang on to your every word." Amani shrugged. "I'm alright I guess." Aladdin stopped walking and smirked at Amani. "Had anyone ever told you that you suck at taking a compliment?" Amani combated, "Have you ever heard of being humble, showoff?" Aladdin gasped and mockingly placed a hand over his head. "Ouch, that hurt me right in my tender heart princess." Amani laughed and shoved Aladdin in the shoulder. "Ok ok." Amani sighed and looked at

Chapter 4 *6 years later* After that fateful day when Amani and Aladdin met a strong friendship began to blossom between the pair. Although Aladdin's flirtatious attitude would sometimes catch her off guard, Amani dismissed it as just another quirk of his personality. With the help of Aladdin to make more bread, The Rashid baking stall was getting even more attention. Aladdin also never failed to distribute the leftover loaves of bread to the poor children living on the streets. Furthermore, when Amani turned thirteen, Omar and Fabienne Rashid revealed to Amani that she was not biologically their daughter. They informed her that she had been dropped off at their hut by her parents when she was two years old and left her only a letter and a gold bracelet with 3 small light green gems embedded in the band. Amani was upset at first, but then accepted the fact that she had been left by her "real" parents. She also grew to love her adopted parents even more since they took her in even
